

As 2025 begins, the Secretariat for the Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals is looking ahead to the 2025 key events and spaces that will shape the transition minerals agenda. Below is a calendar of important events in the minerals’ space this year -be sure to write them in your agenda!
Future Minerals Forum – Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), 14-16 January
The Future Minerals Forum (FMF) is an international event connecting industry, governments, international organizations and other stakeholders to discuss the future of minerals. The FMF, organized by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, has rapidly expanded, growing from 3,500 participants in its first edition in 2022 to nearly 20,000 in 2025 – establishing itself as a key platform for minerals discussions. Additionally, the Forum reported attendance of over 90 countries and 50 multilateral organizations, industry associations, NGOs and leaders from the world’s largest mines, showing its ability to attract an increasingly diverse audience.

World Economic Forum – Davos (Switzerland), 20-24 January
The Davos World Economic Forum gathers business leaders, politicians and journalists to discuss current key global and regional challenges, including withstanding geopolitical shocks, stimulating growth to improve living standards, and stewarding a just and inclusive energy transition. This year, the forum was themed “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age”, for which close to 3,000 participants from over 130 countries took part to focus on five key topics: rebuilding trust, reimagining growth, investing in people, safeguarding the planet, and industries in the intelligent age.
World Future Energy Summit - Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), 14-16 January
The World Future Energy Summit is an annual event hosted by the United Arab Emirates aiming to advance the energy transition, energy efficiency and clean technologies. The Summit ambitions to be a global hub to advance the transfer of ideas, technology and investors across countries and between the private and public sector. To this end, the Programme includes conferences on topics such as Solar and Clean Energy, Pathways to 1.5°C and Green Finance, and dedicates a specific spaces for businesses exhibitions. Last year, attendance reached over 30,000 participants, a nearly 250% rise compared to the 2022 edition.
Mining Indaba – Cape Town (South Africa), 3-6 February
Since its inception in 1994, the Investing in African Mining Indaba conference has become a pivotal event for mining professionals, investors, and industry leaders looking to capitalize on the vast opportunities in Africa's mining sector. With a focus on fostering long-term economic growth and sustainability, the event serves as a premier meeting place for networking, deal-making, and discussions on topics such as technological advancements in mining, sustainable mining practices, and investment opportunities in African mining projects. Last edition gathered over 9,000 participants, including over 1,200 investors, 1,500 executives from Mining Compagnies, and 690 executives from junior companies.
The 2025 edition’s theme is “Future-Proofing African Mining, Today!”, focusing on seven key pillars: industrializing Africa, protecting local communities, delivering effective net zero & just energy Transition strategies, maximizing on Africa's critical minerals endowment, giving a voice to future generations, adopting game-changing technologies and prioritizing health & safety.
International Round Table on Materials Criticality - Ljubljana (Slovenia) 19-21 February
The International Round Table on Materials Criticality (ITCR) convenes researchers, industry players and policymakers to delve into the latest innovations and changes shaping the future of critical raw materials. This event constitutes an opportunity to stay informed and grow technical knowledge with both scientific and policy-oriented sessions, speeches and conversations. The 2025 programme includes sessions on Rare Earth Elements Value Chain challenges, North-South collaboration for sustainable Critical Raw Materials (CRM) development, circular battery chains, tackling the demand side of CRMs, or regulation, trade and finance – amongst others. Participation is expected to reach 250 participants, including 30% from outside Europe.
Finance in Common Summit– Cape Town (South Africa), 26-28 February
The Finance in Common Summit (FiCS) is an annual meeting that brings together Public Development Banks and partners. It was launched in 2020 during the Paris Peace Forum under the leadership of World Federation of DFIs (WFDFIs), the International Development Finance Club (IDFC) and the French Development Agency (AFD). The FiCS seeks to recognize and strengthen the role of public development banks (PDBs) within the global financial system – advocating for PDBs to work closely with other financial and non-financial players for the alignment of all financial flows with the Paris Agreement, the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Summits are organized by the FICS coalition, comprising 530 PDB members, in their respective countries, thus spanning across all continents.
FiCS 2025, co-hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), is themed “Fostering Infrastructure and Finance for Just and Sustainable Growth” and will, for the first time, feature a plenary session addressing the need to leverage finance for critical minerals in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies. The Summit constitutes an opportunity to rethink the role of Public Development Banks, International Financing Institutions and Multilateral Development Banks in enabling responsible financing of in minerals projects and supply chains. The Paris Peace Forum will be co-organizing a high-level closed-door event to continue the discussions held in the plenary session.
Convention on Biological Diversity COP16, resumed – Rome (Italy), 25-27 February
COP16, initiated in Cali, will resume in Rome to wrap up some of the key agreements which couldn’t be concluded earlier in November 2025, including the new Resource Mobilization Strategy aimed at securing $200 billion annually by 2030 for biodiversity initiatives and the monitoring framework for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s 23 targets.
REWAS 2025 – Las Vegas (United States), 23-27 March
The REWAS Conference series is part of the TMS Meeting and Exhibition, organized by the Minerals Metals & Materials Society and sponsored by Rio Tinto, Glencore, and Springer Nature – among others. The 8th edition of the REWAS Conference series will focus on “Circular Economy for the Energy Transition”, with key themes including automatization and digitalization in recycling processes, end-of-life management solutions for clean energy technologies, critical raw material supply chain resilience and recycling innovations, and decarbonization in aluminum production. Last year’s edition gathered more than 3,500 attendees.
OECD Forum on Responsible Minerals Supply Chains – Paris (France), May
Launched in 2011, the Forum is jointly organized by the OECD, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, and the UN Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of Congo and is supported by the European Union.
This year’s edition of the OECD Forum will span three days, including a “policymakers’ day” focusing of linking the aspirations of emerging economies and mining communities to move up the minerals value chain with shoring up resilience in the sector, as well as day dedicated to artisanal and small-scale mining initiatives. Plenary sessions this year will address supply chain transparency, traceability and inter-operability challenges in addition to the role of commodity traders in minerals due diligence. Other topics at the Forum will include coherence between ESG initiatives, measuring the impact of due diligence, regional sessions and environmental due diligence.
World Circular Economy Forum – São Paulo (Brazil), 13-16 May
The World Circular Economy Forum is an event that brings together business leaders, policymakers and experts to present the world’s best circular economy solutions. It is a global initiative of Finland and Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund. The forum has been held since 2017, with previous editions being produced in collaboration with international actors, such as the International Resource Panel, and gathering up to 4,200 participants, with attendees from up to 168 countries. During its 9th edition, WCEF will explore the potential of tropical solutions for sustainable growth, the power of the regenerative economy and the strategies of a bioeconomy.
EIT Raw Materials Summit – Brussels (Belgium), 13-15 May
The EIT Raw Materials Summit is an event convening over 1000 industry leaders, innovators and policymakers to connect and address the latest in technology, policy, sourcing, recycling, skills, circular economies and more. Co-funded by the European Union, the speaker programme offers fresh perspectives on the industry - both upstream and downstream – past, present, and future. Last year’s edition dived into raw materials’ vital role in ensuring EU energy security and a clean energy transition.
Lisbon Energy Summit & Exhibition 2025 – Lisbon (Portugal), 3-4 June
Endorsed by Portugal’s Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Lisbon Energy Summit & Exhibition 2025, will welcome over 2,000 ministers, policymakers, project developers, investors and innovators. Participants will engage in a 2-day high-level strategic conference, sharing insights into transitioning the EU’s energy system to one based on renewables and in line with the REPowerEU initiatives. Over 300 industry leading speakers will provide insights on how to drive an affordable, just energy transition through ambitious targets, competitive support measures and multifaceted energy solutions.
Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend – Marrakech (Morocco), 6-8 June
Since 2011, the Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend annual event brings together, leaders from across Africa and beyond to engage in critical discussions on the continent's progress. With a focus on committed leadership and sound governance, the IGW is a crucial platform for tackling pressing issues facing Africa. It is organized by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, founded in 2006 by Sudanese businessman Mo Ibrahim, as an African organization set up to define, assess and enhance sound leadership and governance as key factors in enabling the continent’s future progress. Focus include climate, data availability, energy, finance, multilateralim and human development – among others. This event is by invitation-only.
Mining on Top Africa – Paris (France), 2-3 July
The Mining on Top Africa (MOTA) Conference is an annual event that brings together key stakeholders from Europe and Africa, including industry leaders, governmental representatives and investors, to foster collaboration and partnerships for sustainable mining across the African continent.
Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development – Seville (Spain), 30 June - 3 July
The International Conference on Financing for Development is a United Nations-sponsored summit where leaders from all governments, along with international and regional organizations, financial and trade institutions, businesses, civil society and the UN System gather at the highest levels to address key financial and related issues pertaining to global development. The inaugural conference took place in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2002 and was the first United Nations-sponsored summit-level meeting. It resulted in the Monterrey Consensus, a landmark global agreement between developed and developing countries, in which both recognized their responsibilities in key areas such as trade, aid, debt relief and institution building. The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) provides a unique opportunity to reform financing at all levels, including the reform of the international financial architecture.
World Resource Forum – Geneva (Switzerland), 2-3 September
The World Resource Forum 2025 edition (WRF’25) convenes more than 300 global leaders from policy, industry, science and civil society to assess and refine strategies for resource governance and management. The conference aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge across regions and stakeholders, exploring how successful approaches can be adapted or scaled globally. A solutions-oriented dialogue aimed at creating resource strategies that support both global goals and local realities.
NYC Climate Week – New York (United States), 21-28 September
The NYC Climate Week is an annual climate event bringing together over 900 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Each year, business, political and civil society leaders of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world, gather to drive the transition, speed up progress, and champion change.
The 2024 Edition featured highly relevant events for transition minerals, with topics such as “The New Industrial Revolution” and “The Energy and Transport Transition”.
The Climate Week NYC is hosted by Climate Group, an international non-profit whose purpose is to drive climate action.
WTO Public Forum – Geneva (Switzerland), September
The Public Forum is the WTO’s largest outreach event, providing a unique platform for interested stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in global trade and to propose ways of enhancing the multilateral trading system. The event attracts over 2,000 representatives each year from civil society, academia, business, government, international organizations and the media. The trade of transition minerals was included in the program last year.
G20 Summit – Cape Town (South Africa), 16-17 November
This year, South Africa’s presidency of the G20 has been themed “solidarity, equality and sustainability”, amongst which key objectives include mobilizing resources for a just energy transition.
IGF Mining 2025 – Geneva (Switzerland), 3-6 November
The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) supports its over 80 member countries in advancing their sustainable development goals through effective laws, policies, and regulations for the mining sector. Its Annual General Meeting (AGM) gathers member states and stakeholders for a series of sessions to discuss pressing issues in the mining sector. Recent editions have spanned themes such as "Redefining Mining: Balancing the Need for Minerals with Protecting People and the Planet" and "Sharing Mining Benefits in the Energy Transition,".
8th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum – Paris (France), November/December
Every year, the Paris Peace Forum’s annual event convenes heads of States, leaders of international organizations, companies, and civil society organizations from around the world to improve global governance. Since 2022 and the creation of the Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals, transition minerals is a key theme of the Paris Peace Forum annual events and activities across the year. This is an invitation-only event, attended by nearly 2,000 participants for its 7th Edition.
UNFCCC COP30 – Belém (Brazil), 10-21 November
While mining and transition minerals have been largely overlooked in climate negotiations (see Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals Interim report, recommendation 1), significant progress has been made to better recognize transition mineral’s role in climate goals. There is hope that discussions on minerals for the energy transition will be better integrated into climate negotiations under the Brazilian Presidency.
United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA-7) – Nairobi (Kenya), 8-12 December
The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) on the theme "Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet”. While the programme for UNEA-7 is not yet available, during the last session, UN Member States addressed minerals and metals in Resolution 6/8 (Environmental aspects of minerals and metals), building on two preceding Resolutions (Resolution 4/19 on mineral resource governance and Resolution 5/12 on the environmental aspects of minerals and metals management). While stakeholders have flagged a missed opportunity for UNEA to build on its momentum, it is highly likely that mining governance will continue to be addressed and strengthened in this forum (see comments by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment).

Mines & Money @ Resourcing Tomorrow – London (United Kingdom), 2-4 December
Mines and Money is an international event series connecting high-level investors from around the world with senior management from mining exploration and development companies. Over 11,000 attendees typically attend Mines and Money events, from over 140 countries. Among these series of events, Resourcing Tomorrow gathers over 2,000 participants, including mining companies, government ministers, investors, energy leaders, policymakers, and solution providers from around the world, to collaborate to accelerate the energy transition. The event’s topics range from decarbonization and sustainability to finance, technology & innovation, geopolitics, investment, and more.
