Kandeh Yumkella

Yumkella, Kandeh is a former UN Under-Secretary-General and Chair of UN-Energy (2008-2015). Prior to his appointment, Dr Yumkella served two four-year terms as Director General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (2005-2013), with a focus on SDGs 7 and 9 on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, and building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation, respectively. After returning to serve as member of parliament from 2018-2023, Dr Yumkella is now member of the High-Level Group of the Africa-Europe Foundation, co-chair of the Africa Europe Foundation Strategy Group on Energy, as well as Chairman of the presidential initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security of Sierra Leone.
